Shopping for guy friends' birthday presents can be tricky. Unlike with boyfriends, I typically don't know my guy friends quite as well, and I don't want to give something too cute or bordering on romantic. Being a poor college student, I also don't have much money to splurge on expensive video games or gadgets.
Over my college and high school years, I've discovered a few inexpensive presents that are almost always received with enthusiasm:
Boxers
Guys can never have enough underwear, so I've been told. One more pair of boxers means one more day they can put off their laundry. If you want to have fun with it, pick out some with designs that he'll find funny or a pattern that would match his personality.
Yes, I said it: cupcakes. It's true, cupcakes are cute, but guys can definitely appreciate a good cupcake. As the saying goes, the way to a man's heart is through his stomach. He'll probably appreciate that you made them, and you'll get extra points if you can make them look cool (like the superhero cupcakes above.)
Flask
Drinks are expensive. If your friend likes going out, he'll love a flask to bring his alcohol in. Surprisingly, flasks start at about $5.00 when you order them from Amazon. For an added (but expensive) touch, get his name engraved.
Ties
Most college guys don't have many ties in their closet. This might not be the coolest present, but the guy will definitely thank you later when he needs a tie for his internship interview or a formal event.

ReplyDeleteI got my sister's boyfriend a cookie monster MANcake from the Cake Boss for his bday and he loved it; it even had a miniature chocolate chip cookie in it's mouth!

I'll be celebrating my birthday this coming April 7. Aside from birthday cards I hope I can have a good gift from my parents. I really want to have that Ipad 2 in my hands!
