With summer over and school underway, travel is inevitable. Whether you’re going an hour by car or six by plane, you should always put your best face forward and travel in style. What people tend to forget, especially on long trips, is the fact that you are in a controlled environment for a long period of time. Heat from the sun and cold air from air conditioning are something that we rarely think about, but both are both factors that can dramatically affect your skin. Here’s a list of beauty products that can help combat the inevitable heat and chill while keeping you looking your best on your long travels.
Road Trips
When you hit the highway at full speed, here are a few beauty products that are a must.Sunscreen: No matter how safe you feel behind the wheel, your skin is still at risk. Being inside a car gives people the illusion that they are protected from the sun, when in reality the risk is just as high. So before heading out, stop by your local drugstore and pick up a small bottle of sunscreen. Neutrogena has come out with some wonderful sunblocks that are very affordable. For those of you with oily skin, try Neutrogena’s Clear Face Sunblock. For those with normal to dry skin, try Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Liquid Daily Sunblock SPF 70.
Powder Foundation: It can get quite warm on car rides even at the beginning of autumn, so apply a powder foundation and powder blush. If you have dry skin a mineral makeup can do the trick. Bare Minerals has a wonderful powder foundation, which comes in original for drier skin and matte for those who are more oily.
Long-Lasting Mascara: On lengthy car rides you never know what could happen. A travel-savvy girl should always be at the ready for a flat tire or running out of gas. Look for a long-lasting mascara or one that is waterproof. That way, if you’re ever stuck at the side of the road you won’t have to worry about your mascara running! Try CoverGirl LashBlast Mascara in Very Black.
Plane Rides
Dehydration is the number one concern when flying the friendly skies so here are a few products to combat parched skin.Image Source
Moisturizer: To keep your skin feeling fresh and dewy, make sure to drink lots of water to keep hydrated. Apply a healthy amount of moisturizer to your face before applying any makeup. If you have oily skin, try to find something that is oil-free but still very hydrating. Philosophy’s Hope in a Jar is a wonderful option. And if you have combination to dry skin, try Clinique’s Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion.
Cream Blush: After applying your foundation of choice, apply a cream blush to the apple of the cheeks. Choosing a cream blush is a good idea because it won’t cake or dry as fast as powder blushes would. You can find good quality cream blushes at your local drugstore, such as Revlon’s Photoready Cream Blush.
Hydrating Lip Balm: Once I discovered Smith’s Rosebud Salve, I’ve never looked back. I make it a point to always carry some with me wherever I go. This product is multifunctional and can be used as a lip balm or as a moisturizer for dryness on the hands, elbows and knees. It comes in three amazing flavors: Original Rosebud, Minted Rose and Strawberry. Just apply a healthy coating of this on your lips, and they will be sure to stay hydrated and smooth on your long flight.
Once you’ve accumulated the products necessary for your travel look, make a little travel bag to keep in your purse with all the essentials inside. That way, if you need a touch up at any point your products are right at your fingertips.
You can also ask for a sample of a product at most beauty supply stores, especially ones that are more expensive, and try it out during your travels. That way you won’t have to spend a fortune on a product that you will only use once.
Safe travels!
