Why Friends Are Like Vitamins

When in times of weakness, your friends are there with moral support and make it their priority to always have your back. That is what friends are for, correct? They are that extra shoulder to cry on, to listen to you as you vent away about your EX, as you go on and on analyzing the relationship. They can be your partners in crime, for example, being your spy accomplice in terms of stalking out a crush or boyfriend’s house because of your suspicions that he may be cheating on you. Although friends can be amazing, they can also be difficult too. Not all the time you will get along with them. You may fight, stop communicating for a whole week or more. In girl years of friendship a week translates to feeling like a month from being out of touch especially if it is your best friend, someone you are used to talking to everyday.

Then we have those extra special friends often known as your “best friends.” You share a deep bond and strong connection with each other. It may sometimes feel as if they were your soul mate simply because you finish each other’s sentences. With just one glance at each other, you immediately share the same thoughts, without having to say one word and you unwillingly dress the same because you share a similar style. These friends are the sisters you never had or an addition to sisters you may already have. They may witness your highs and your lows and are the only ones who can get away with telling you the ugly truth.

It is important to nourish and appreciate your friendships especially your friends who have been there for you. Old friendships or new friendships are important to have and build bonds with friends who you know have potential to being life long friends. It is amazing how much one can learn from their friends. Not only are friendships good for you, but also for your health. They call it Vitamin F (Friends) according to Doctor Oz. The research shows, “That people in strong social circles have less risk of depression and terminal strokes. If you take Vitamin F constantly, you can be up to 30 years younger than your real age. The warmth of friendship stops stress and even in your tense moments, it decreases the chance of a cardiac arrest or stroke by 50%.”

It is truly amazing how friendships influence our lives. If having a positive influence of friendships in one’s life can improve one’s health then perhaps we should take pride in nurturing those friendships. Do not lose touch of the friends you cannot live without and do not take your friendships for granted. Like the song, “That’s What Friends are for” - for good times and bad times I’ll be on your side forever more - By - Dionne Warwick & Friends. How many of you have a friend who you can say is like your better half or friends that have been part of your life for a long time. What would you say was the turning point in your friendships? The moment when you realized, “Wow this girl and I are going to be best friends.” Do share those moments in your friendships turning point.
