When you’re bundled from head to toe in a heavy coat, oversized scarf and your choice of gloves or mittens, being fashionable isn’t always easy. It takes more effort -- as cute as the outfit you’re wearing underneath your outerwear may be, no one’s going to see it (bummer, I know!). All I can say is, thank goodness for tights! The moment fall temperatures begin feeling more like winter, I turn to these colorful leg warmers to add some much needed excitement to my daily look.

The Designer Look: Sometimes I think we get stuck in the mindset that the fall and winter months are solely reserved for neutral color palettes. Just because the weather’s dull and dreary doesn’t mean you have to take it out on your wardrobe. One look at Anna Sui’s eccentric, girly and upbeat fall collection and you won’t know what’s come over you.
A true girly-girl, I absolutely adore the ladylike details found in Sui’s runway look above. Nothing is prettier or more feminine than a floral chiffon dress, especially when it’s contrasted with a bold pair of tights and oh-so perfect ballerinas. If you want to make a statement, then a vivid shade of tangerine, cobalt blue or hot pink is the way to go. Another one of my favorites: warm and toasty cardigans. With so much color in one ensemble, a cardigan in a neutral hue such as beige, grey or cream will make the difference between an over-the-top look and one that achieves the perfect balance of quirky and cool. To complete the boho vibe, don’t hesitate to throw on a chunky beaded drop necklace and oversized cuff, if you dare.

Black tights are the all-around, wear-with-everything staple that will come in handy time and time again. As exhibited by this week’s runway look, colored hosiery is fierce and will add a bit of whimsy to even the most mundane of ensembles.
If you love printed jeans, then mastering crazy patterned tights should be no problem. (Hint: they look adorable with solid colored skirts and dresses.) With the holiday party season fast approaching, you know you’re lusting over a luxe pair of lace tights to spice up your look.
