Regardless of whether you keep up with the latest fashion trends or not, the peplum cannot be ignored. What’s not to love: It’s curve-enhancing, lends you the desired hourglass shape and is actually pretty darn cute. With the holiday season here, the peplum could not enter your life at a more perfect time. From a sparkly sequin peplum top to a sophisticated black peplum dress, you’ll have plenty of options for all of your upcoming festivities.

The Designer Look: For a polished and pulled-together ensemble, you need not look further than Tory Burch’s fall collection. Prim and proper handbags, gloves and charming collars collectively contributed to the designer’s creative vision. This week’s look for less is versatile and can easily be translated for the classroom, workplace or even a fine night of dining. Like your everyday T-shirt, a long-sleeve black peplum top is a must-have in your wardrobe. You can wear it with jeans and ballet flats for a casual look or take it up a notch by throwing on a tweed pencil skirt. While the model above is shown wearing plaid printed leather pants (ideal for a night out), printed jeans will be more appropriate for the daytime. A black quilted handbag with a chain strap adds a classy touch to the look and complements the black peplum top nicely. Instead of your typical pair of stilettos, pointed spectator pumps will keep your ensemble fresh and fashion-forward.
The Look for Less:
1. Peplum Blouse from Mango, $50
2. Almost Famous Premium Plaid Womens Skinny Pants from Tilly’s, $30
3. Pleaser Women's Vanity Mary Jane Pump from Amazon, $31
4. Mossimo Supply Co. Quilted Chain Crossbody from Target, $17
The Look for Less Total: $128
Style Tip: If the first peplum that you try on doesn’t flatter your figure, then try again. Unlike some trends where you either like it or you don’t, the peplum has so much potential. For those who are petite, try a basic peplum top with a subtle ruffle. Since the last thing you want is for the peplum to overwhelm your small frame, it’s important to find one that either sits at your waist or just slightly above it. Likewise, a dress or skirt with a more dramatic peplum will prove to be a better fit for those with a curvier shape.
