Beauty Heartbreak: Four Overrated Cult Products

We’ve all been in lust; we read a dozen reviews, watched tons of tutorials on YouTube and read beauty editors gushing about a certain product we have been dying to try out. Without restrain, we decide we NEED to get our hands on it. Once we do, it’s a total bummer. Talk about overrated.

Never fear, it’s not you, it’s them. We are here to reassure you that we had to end our temporary romance with these cult favorites, too.

1. Some of you may hate us for this, but we don’t get the obsession with NARS Orgasm blush. Sure, it looks beautiful on the pan, but it fails to work its magic on anybody darker than an olive skin tone, think Eva Mendes. Don’t get us wrong, we ADORE NARS blushes, but this color does not make the cut as a universally appealing, beauty icon in our eyes.

2. Maybelline Great Lash Mascara is an icon of its own; perhaps the first beauty product that became an icon, but we are less than impressed. Sure, many beauty editors swear by this baby, but it did nothing for our thin lashes. With a wide range of stellar Maybelline mascaras, we wouldn’t throw this one in our makeup bag.

3. It’s not that we dislike YSL’s Touche Eclat, but we are pretty displeased that it is hyped up in the beauty community as a band-aid for those of us battling with dark circles. Dark circles put a major damper in our makeup routine, so finding the right product is crucial. If you want to splurge on YSL Touche Eclat, you are more than welcome to, but you must remember that it is a luminizer, not a concealer; its purpose is to brighten the eye area, not counteract blue-ish tones making you look tired.

4. Now you guys are really, really going to hate us, but we are not fans of Urban Decay eyeshadows. They might have concocted the perfect shades of neutrals on the face of this earth, but we cannot stand its glitterized pigmentation, which we accuse of major fall out. Call us lazy, but we don’t want to work around that. Ultimately, we are not totally sold on a highly, shimmery day time look.

Even though we believe that there is absolutely no such thing as “bad” beauty products, we must find what works for us individually. By no means are we discouraging you from trying out these cult classics, but we are asking you to evaluate what’s worth splurging on. Comment and tell us if you agree or still swear by these products!
