For any college student, turning 21 is a huge milestone. All of a sudden drinking is legal and 21-and-over events are no longer exclusive. This means that celebrating a 21st birthday is just more fun. But no matter who comes to the party, everyone knows that the birthday girl has to look her best on her big day. Below is a perfect makeup look for anyone’s 21st birthday that adds a little glitz, glamour and fun!
Foundation: Whenever a special event comes up, it’s not the time to try out new products. When it comes to foundation, use an old favorite that’s long-lasting. If you don’t use long lasting foundations on a day-to-day basis, try L’Oreal Paris Infallible Advanced Never Fail Makeup ($8.50) for a wearable foundation that will last all day and all night. Be sure to test it out before the big day to make sure it works!
Concealer: Follow up with a concealer under the eyes and on problematic areas around the face. Clinique’s Advanced Concealer ($17) is a cream-to-powder matte concealer that will stay on all night, and it works for all skin types.
Setting Powder: Next, set the foundation and concealer with powder. Choose a powder that works well under a camera flash, such as an HD powder or Revlon’s PhotoReady Pressed Powder Compact ($10).
Brows: Perfect the brows by sweeping on a brow gel to set the hairs in place. Sonia Kashuk’s Brow Gel ($6) is the perfect setting gel that will help your brows stay in place all night long.
Setting Spray: Lastly, set the entire look with a setting spray like MAC’s Fix+ ($21) to be sure your foundation stays on all night long.
Shadow: Follow up by sweeping a matte nude shadow across the lid and up to the browbone. Then, take a taupe color with either a matte or satin finish and run it across the lid and through the crease of the eye. To add even more definition, add a bit of matte black shadow in the crease of the eye and highlight the brow bone with a frosted white shadow. MAC has a wonderful line of high quality shadows that come in every color and finish imaginable and are $15 each. For a more affordable option, NYX single shadows are less than $5 each.
Shimmer: To give the look extra flair, use an eye shimmer across the lid making sure to concentrate the product close to the lashline and the center of the lid. Victoria’s Secret’s Hypergloss Eye Shimmer ($14) comes in silver and soft gold to make the eye look pop! With a taupe-based eye, it’s also easy to add color into the look. For even more drama, take an accent color that complements your outfit and sweep it through the crease of the eye and blend down into the taupe color on the lid.
Eyeliner: Once the shadow is applied, use a liquid liner to draw a thick line above the top lashes and wing it out on the end to create a cat eye. Try Maybelline Precision Liquid Eyeliner ($6) for the perfect winged liner.
Lashes: Next, apply false lashes to add more drama to the look. Maybelline’s Expert Lash Naturals ($7) are perfect for a night out and reusable as well! After applying the false lashes, curl the lashes and apply a waterproof mascara to blend the false and real lashes together. Maybelline’s Volum’ Express Turbo Boost Waterproof Mascara ($8) will help keep lashes in place all night and can be found at any drugstore. To finish the eyes take an angled brush and sweep some of the matte black shadow on the lower lash line to add definition.
Lips: To complete the birthday look apply a fun lip in a pink coral tone. Illamasqua’s Intense Lipgloss in Mistress ($22) may be a little pricy but it looks phenomenal on the lip and photographs extremely well. If a bold lip clashes with your dress, then opt for a soft nude lip.
Now all that’s left is an amazing outfit, good friends, a DD and a great night!
