How to Achieve the Perfect Concert Makeup
Rocker Chic
For a rocker-chic look, celebrities like Kristen Stewart or Taylor Momsen provide the perfect inspiration. Finding a muse, whether it be a celebrity, friend or a magazine clip, can help guide a makeup look in the right direction.
To achieve a rocker-worthy eye, start by applying a primer potion, such as Urban Decay’s Eyeshadow Primer Potion Tube ($20), all over the lids. This will help the look stay on all night. When choosing shadows, look for dark tones in deep navy or plum to help add definition to the eye. Kat Von D has a line of incredible shadow palettes in a range of colors. Her True Romance Eyeshadow Palette in Sinner ($36) has the perfect array of colors for a rocker smokey eye and also comes with an eyeliner pencil. It may seem expensive, but when it’s all broken down each shadow comes down to only four dollars! For individual shadows, try NYX’s Single Eye Shadows ($5). For the basic eye, pick one matte nude shadow, a black matte and a deep blue or purple that can have shimmer. Next, apply the nude shadow all over the lid and up to the brow bone. Then, take the black shadow and apply it into the crease of the eye and across the lid. Next, take the deep blue or purple color and blend it over the center of the lid, working out to the corner of the eye. To soften and diffuse the color, use a clean blending brush to blend out the edges. Then, take a black pencil liner on the top and bottom lashes to give that bold rocker eye some definition. Lastly, finish up the eyes with a lash curler and two coats of mascara.
As for the face, try to keep things as simple as possible. A little concealer under the eyes followed by setting powder and blush will complete the look! This look should appear effortless and not too put together.
Country & Alternative
For a country or alternative look, celebrities like Vanessa Hudgens and Taylor Swift can be a style guide.
This second look is much simpler but starts the same way as the first: with an eye primer all over the lids. Next, apply a gold, brown or taupe shadow across the lid. Shades of brown are more natural and not as harsh as black. NYX’s Single Eye Shadows ($5) have a range of shades that will suit any skin tone. For fair skin try Silk, for medium skin try Taupe and for dark skin try Walnut. The shadow can also be applied on the bottom lash line for a more dramatic effect. Next, take a black or brown pencil liner and line the upper lash line and the bottom waterline.
On the face try Sephora’s Perfecting Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20 Oil-Free ($20) to keep the skin glowing and natural. Follow up with a little bit of concealer under the eyes, setting powder and blush. To keep the look as natural as possible use a cream blush like NYX’s Rogue Cream Blush ($7). All that’s left to finish the look is some chapstick on the lips or a tinted balm to keep them soft all night long.
Don’t forget to bring a purse with a powder compact inside to touch up, and of course keep your tickets handy!
