DIY: Alcohol Ink-Dyed Coasters

Spring has arrived and what better way to welcome it than with spring cleaning. Get rid of your old coasters because we have a fabulous new coaster for you to make! Making alcohol ink-dyed coasters will not only be fun, but it's also not too complicated. It should not take you longer than two hours and that is including dry time!

You will need:
  • Ceramic tiles
  • Alcohol ink
  • Alcohol
  • Aerosol finisher
  • A paintbrush
  • Rubber pads (for the bottom of the tile)

Coat the tile with regular drugstore alcohol. Then, drip small spots of different colors of ink onto the tile. Every time you drip a color, tilt the tile in different directions so it will spread a bit. Add colors until the tile is completely covered.

You can allow the colors to blend as much as you choose by tilting the tile more or less! If you have too much color in one spot, just take a paper towel and dab it to take away the color.

Let the dye dry completely then go to an open area and spray the tile with a coat of aerosol finisher. Once the aerosol finisher has dried, take a paint color of your choice and paint the edges of the tile.

Painting the edges will give your coaster a finished look. All you have left to do is glue the rubber pads to the bottom so it will not slide at all. Now you have a new set of tiles to show off to all of your friends when they come over!
