Whether you're interning this summer, working part time during the year, or starting your new post-grad job, you don't want to be the girl with the frumpy suit or the girl who tries to pass off a too-tight club dress as appropriate professional clothes. Luckily, you can easily get away with stylish, professional outfits on just a few well-fitted staples.
Here are three basic outfits to wear to the office, plus a list of our favorite basic office staples:
Dress: Sheinside Sleeveless Pleated Flare Dress | Blazer: Doublju Tailored Blazer
| Shoes: Jessica Simpson Claudete D'Orsay
I love the simple yet stylish look of fit-and-flare dresses. Depending on how conservative your office is, you want to go for a dress that ends somewhere between your mid-thigh and your knee. A blazer goes well for a chic look while the A/C is running, and a leopard shoe can top off the neutral look with a bit of intrigue.
Top: J.Tomson Fitted Peplum Top
| Pants: Yoana Baraschi Slim Ponte Pant
| Shoe: Enzo Angiolini Caswell Pump
Peplum and pants are a dream pair when it comes to office wear. Make sure the peplum top is conservative enough: no see through lace, spaghetti straps, and cut-outs please! Pair the outfit with a neutral heel if the peplum top is bright.
Top: Jones NY Wrap Top
| Skirt: Three Dots Jersey Pencil Skirt
| Shoes: Ollio Basic Pointed Toe Flat
I love how this outfit looks professional, but is actually very comfortable. With a slouchy wrap top and a jersey skirt, comfortable fabrics can go a long way. For days you can't be bothered to wear heels, nude flats will help elongate your legs while you still maintain the comfort of flats.
If you're just starting out, it's a good idea to have a few versatile pieces on hand. My favorite office wear staples include:
- An office appropriate dress
- A fitted blazer
- A cardigan
- A pair of trousers
- A peplum top
- A pair of neutral or black pumps
- A boatneck top (or any top that doesn't show too much cleavage)
- A pencil skirt
- Nude flats
Although your office atmosphere will dictate how you can dress, generally you'll want to stay away from:
What's your go-to office outfit? What are your office do's and don'ts?
- Dresses that are much too tight
- Leggings as pants
- Spaghetti strap tank tops
- Transparent clothing
- Mini-skirts (or dresses)
- Too-high heels

Heyy great post! It was very entertaining to read. I especially like the third outfit - it's absolutely gorgeous. It's been a while since I've seen one of your beauty related posts - I was wondering if you could review Vain Pursuits? I've started hearing a lot about them and would love to hear what you have to say about them!
