4 Things You Should Do This Year for Your Future Career

As the school year is beginning, you're probably thinking about classes or activities, not your future career. It's easy to get caught up in everyday college life, but job hunting might come up sooner than you think! Before you get too far into midterms or finals, here are four things you should do this year for your future career.
Update and proofread your resume
Your resume is sometimes all an employer has to go off of when they are deciding whether to interview you. You never know when an opportunity to apply for a job will come up, so keep your resume updated and polished. Make sure to update your resume to reflect your internships over college. You should also make sure to proofread your resume, or better yet, have someone else proofread your resume for any spelling or grammatical errors.
Clean up your social media accounts
Employers often will check your social media accounts these days. While your Facebook profile pic does not need to be professionally done, you probably should delete photos of you drinking excessively, doing drugs, or in the middle of anything illegal. With other social media, make sure you haven't posted anything that will excessively count against you.
Talk to your career center
Most schools have a career center, and their job is to help you find a job! Even if you are not sure what you want to do after you graduate, it's a great idea to talk to them. They can help point you in the right direction when it comes to your future goals.
Look and apply for jobs
Finally, you can prepare all you want, but you won't get anywhere unless you look for and apply to jobs. Job boards like JobTonic are a great resource to find all kinds of positions. Get into the habit of checking these boards from time to time to see what kind of opportunities are out there.
